As the final month of the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) gets underway, the Player of the Year (POY) race is heating up, and it’s a surprise name sitting at the top of the standings.
Despite holding just one bracelet compared to Benny Glaser’s two, Illinois’ Scott Bohlman leads the way with 2,144.27 points, thanks to an impressive start to the summer that already includes eight cashes.
Bohlman, a mixed game veteran, claimed his second career bracelet in Event #17: $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em, earning $436,044 after topping a 1,692-runner field. It was his first WSOP title since winning the $2,500 Mixed Big Bet event back in 2018, despite multiple final table appearances in the intervening years.

Meanwhile, PLO specialist Bruno Furth, who discussed his POY credentials with PokerNewson Sunday, is close behind in third after a standout start to the summer. He captured the Event #5: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha title for $620,696, and added another big result with a runner-up finish to fellow top-10 contender Philip Sternheimer in Event #36: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship, worth $508,705.
Multiple bracelet winners Nick Schulman, Nick Guagenti, Joao Vieria, and Lou Garza also feature in a star-studded top 10, alongside newly-crowned champions like Ryan Hoenig and Blaz Zervaj. All in all, the current top 10 hold a combined 29 WSOP gold bracelets between them.
Is This Player the Next Big Thing at the World Series of Poker?
As a quick reminder, the 2025 WSOP marks the second year under the updated Player of the Year (POY) criteria, introduced ahead of last year's series.
The rule changes, which require a minimum of five cashes to qualify and count only a player’s top ten results, also add in the player's best online result.
For anyone interested in the POY race, you can use the WSOP POY calculator to estimate the points up for grabs for any bracelet event. Moreover, the leaderboard is updated daily for fans and players to follow.
PokerNewswill continue tracking the POY race throughout the summer. In the meantime, check out PokerNews'live reporting, bringing you coverage of every event from the floor of Horseshoe & Paris Las Vegas.
