It was in Bristol, England, circa 1680 that Edward Teach, popularly known as Blackbeard, was born. His early life is unknown, but historical accounts indicate he was raised in a rfenzy slotsespectable household. Teach started his maritime career as a privateer in the Caribbean, attacking Spanish and French ships, during Queen Anne's War (1701–1714). Like many other privateers, Teach turned to piracy following the end of the war in 1714. He joined the crew of renowned pirate captain Benjamin Hornigold and advanced fast to become his protégé.
