On Wednesday night, Venetian Poker Live hosted a $100/$200 with a $200 BB ante no-limit hold’em cash game – with Squid Game in full effect – featuring the likes of Brian Okin, Johan “YoH Viral” Guilbert, Julien Martini, John Isaac, and Jean-Robert Bellande.
The minimum buy-in was $20,000 but the game quickly grew to have nearly $1 million on the table. Remko Rinkema and Tristan Wade were on the call, and there was no shortage of action to report.
Here’s how things stacked up at the start of the stream.

While it's also a hit show on Netflix, Squid Game has also become popular in poker cash games around the world as of late. It is a variation of the stand-up game designed to increase action. When a player wins a pot, they earn a “squid” token. Players who fail to win a pot during the squid game, which is usually comprised of a hand per player at the table (i.e., if there are eight players, then a Squid Game would be eight hands before resetting), must pay a penalty to those who did.
In this particular game, a “Squid” was worth $300. So, for example, if JRB won eight hands in a row and no other players won a Squid, they would each owe him $2,400.
Just 17 minutes into the stream, one of the most entertaining hands of the night took place. It began when Dr. Premium called $200 with the A♠8♥and Bellande did the same from the button with the Q♣10♣. Yoh Viral then raised to $6,100 with the A♦K♣in the small blind, and Dr. Premium moved all in for $8,200 total.
Bellande called, Yoh Viral put in the additional $2,100, and the flop came down Q♥3♦J♦. Yoh Viral bet $4,800, and Bellande moved all in. Yoh Viral had $16,900 total and called off to create a pot worth $58,800.
All three players agreed to run it twice, and as it was, JRB was a 66% favorite, Yoh Viral had a 32% chance of winning, and Dr. Premium a lowly 1%. The 6♦turn gave Yoh Viral a flush draw, and he locked up half the pot when the 9♦river gave him the diamond flush.
On the second run, the 7♦turn once again gave Yoh Viral a flush draw, but it would be the A♣on the river that’d give him a pair of aces to scoop the entire pot. Yoh Viral did a victory lap around the room, and despite being clearly frustrated, Bellande did give the Frenchman a fist bump.

In the biggest pot of the night, there was $9,700 in the pot and a flop of 5♦K♣7♥when Okin checked second pair holding the A♦7♦and Martini bet $3,500 from the big blind with the A♠3♦.
Okin called and then turned the nut flush draw when the 2♦peeled off. He checked nonetheless and Martini, who picked up some equity by turning a wheel draw, bet $15,000. Okin called with his pair and flush draw, which he hit when the 4♦spiked on the river.
Okin checked the nuts, and Martini, who hit a runner-runner straight, bet $35,000 into the pot of $46,700. Okin was going to check-raise, but the question was how much. He paused for a few beats before moving all in for $136,600.
Martini thought long and hard before calling only to watch the $319,900 pot, the biggest of the night, pushed to Okin.
